The caffeine in this coffee smoothie will wake you up and get you moving, while the minerals and vitamins from a banana and Greek yogurt will keep that energy going.

This smoothie is the perfect morning pick-me-up. If you are going to have your regular cup of coffee anyways, why not make it into a healthy, tasty smoothie with one easy extra step? The smoothie is more well-rounded than a plain cup of coffee with the addition of banana, Greek yogurt, and honey. The jolt of caffeine will still be the same, but in a slightly improved form.

The simple coffee bean, enjoyed by millions of people every day, actually contains a number of health benefits. Alongside the caffeine and bold flavor, coffee is full of antioxidants that aid your immune system.

It may decrease the risk of developing type II diabetes as well, because the antioxidants boost cells’ sensitivity to insulin. This helps to better regulate blood sugar levels.

Moderate coffee drinking is also good for your brain health. Coffee drinkers are less likely to develop dementia or Alzheimer’s disease later in life. The antioxidants help to prevent brain cell damage and boost the activity of neurotransmitters.

Coffee

Bananas and Greek yogurt round out the smoothie by adding potassium, protein, and fiber. Feel free to add coconut milk or regular milk if you normally include it in your coffee. Most people can benefit from a cup or two of coffee a day (except those that need to avoid acidic drinks). Besides energizing your morning, it can actually be good for you if enjoyed in moderation.

This version of the smoothie is strong, so you can adjust the spices and sweetness to personal taste. Or perhaps if it’s in the middle of the summer, add more ice! And keep in mind that even though you blend the coffee with other ingredients, the taste of the coffee itself is still important. So I would recommend high quality coffee beans for the best tasting smoothie.

Ingredients

1 cup brewed coffee, chilled
1 frozen banana
2 tbsp Greek yogurt
2 tsp honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup ice cubes

Instructions

1. In a large cup (if using an immersion blender) or a blender, combine ingredients and blend until smooth. Add more chilled coffee if necessary to reach desired consistency. Adjust sweetness to taste. Serve immediately.
